Digital Terrestrial Television technology developed in the European Union in the 1990s has become the de-facto standard for the transmission of digital signals over VHF and UHF band . Digital terrestrial TV is currently supported many European and Asian governments who have endorsed the DVB-T standard and by issuing licenses or test licenses mostly to public broadcasters.
Based on the DVB-T standard the international bodies are in the final stage of defining the DVB-H standard for broadcasting onto handheld devices. This results in the most likely development within the next 2-3 years that Television will not be only a service that can be consumed at home or in the office via DVB-T but also in the car, on the laptop and on the mobile phone and PDA using the already existing DVB-T infrastructure.
